The Open Kitchen provides hot meals for between 100 and 200 homeless people at noon every weekday. Begun in 1983, the Open Kitchen is supported through the collection of rescued food from local businesses and by donations from various agencies. In addition, several local congregations support the work of the Open Kitchen by cooking and serving meals. Saint Paul & the Redeemer parishoners cook and deliver lunch on the third Monday of each month. Volunteers cook the meal the afternoon before and deliver the meal on the day it is to be served. Periodically, members also volunteer to help prepare side dishes and serve the meal to the Open Kitchen Guests. If you would like to volunteer, or to get more information, contact Beth Angell at 773-702-1421 or angell@uchicago.edu.
