The Very Rev. S. James Steen, Rector

Jim Steen came to Chicago and to St. Paul & the Redeemer in 1998 following a 2-year stint as Priest-in-Charge of St. Mark's Capitol Hill, in Washington D.C. Prior to being at St. Mark's he was Executive Director of Prism Parishes, an organization he founded to help church institutions flourish by utilizing their diversity as an asset. A 1962 graduate of Washington and Lee University and a 1969 graduate of the General Theological Seminary in New York City, before he moved to Washington, DC in 1979, Jim served parishes in his native Tulsa, Oklahoma, in Seattle, Princeton, New Jersey, and New York City. He has a grown son and lives with his partner in nearby Kenwood.

The Rev. Peter C. Lane, Assistant Rector

Peter Lane came to St. Paul and the Redeemer in July 2007 after finishing a Masters of Sacred Theology at the General Theological Seminary in New York City. Previously, Peter taught U.S. History and coached baseball at Nueva Esperanza High School in North Philadelphia. He has a MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary and a BA from the University of Chicago. You can find him running or biking along the lake, playing with his young son at the playground, or exploring Chicago with his wife. They all live in Hyde Park.

Jack Seymour, Deacon

Jack Seymour joined the community of St. Paul and the Redeemer as a perpetual deacon in 2004. Prior to being at SPR, Jack was a deacon at the Church of the Epiphany on the near west side of Chicago. Deacon Jack was ordained a perpetual deacon in the Diocese of Springfield in 1994 where he served the Cathedral. He was a founder of First Bank of the Americas, SSB, a community development bank serving the Hispanic community on the south west side of Chicago. His ministry at SPR is focused on assisting at the Sunday services, visiting individuals who are home-bound and helping with the maintenance of the church buildings and grounds. Jack has two children, Bobby and Kelen. He lives on the near west side of Chicago with his son Bobby.

Brian Bloye, Director of Music

Brian Bloye, who joined the SPR staff in February, 2008, graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan's School of Music, where he studied organ performance and church music. He received the master of music degree, cum laude, from DePaul University in piano performance. Brian has been a church musician his entire life, serving parishes in three Michigan cities and in Chicago and its suburbs. After moving to Chicago in 1993, he served parishes in the western suburbs, and then became Music Director at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in 2002. During his tenure there, he developed an outstanding music program which includes two choirs. Brian is also a tenor, and sings with several Chicago choral groups, including Bella Voce, and the Grant Park Chorus. His compositions include many psalm settings, two Masses, and numerous choral anthems.

Irene Claude, St. Nicholas Choir Director

Irene Claude, who is leading the St. Nicholas Choir, is a private flute teacher and performer. She has taught flute for over 15 years and in addition to her studio in Hyde Park, she is currently the flute instructor at Marian Catholic High School, and a faculty member of both the Music Institute of Chicago and the DePaul Community Music School. Irene is a member of the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with many Chicago area ensembles, including Music of the Baroque, Chicago Sinfonietta, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony, and the Illinois Philharmonic. Irene has a M.M. from DePaul University and a B.M.A. from the University of Michigan. Irene has completed Suzuki pedagogy studies with several teachers; she is a member of the Chicago Flute Club, the National Flute Association, the Chicago Federation of Musicians, the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and Music Teachers of Hyde Park. Irene is also a registered Music Together teacher and teaches for Marsha's Music Together in Hyde
